Graham Edwards, Ceiriog Memorial Institute

  • The life of Richard Jones Berwyn, who left the Ceiriog Valley in 1865 on the ship “Mimosa”, with the first Welsh settlers in Patagonia. He became a very influential man and, amongst a large number of posts, was registrar of births, deaths and marriages amongst the Welsh community.
  • Why did many Welsh people leave for Patagonia in 1865 and how did they manage to overcome the incredible hardships in South America?
  • The unique relationship between the Welsh and the native people in Patagonia.
I do not charge a fee ( apart from a small travel cost ) but would welcome donations for Ysgol y Cwm in Trevelin, Patagonia.

The talk is available in both English and Welsh
