‘Torpedo’ bottles with rounded ends ensured that the bottles were kept horizontal to stop the cork shrinking. R Ellis & Sons began extracting, aerating and bottling water from Ruthin in 1825 and by 1856 they employed 60 staff who could each fill up to 25,000 bottles a day.
