JT Burrows’ Collection Prestatyn

In 2022 a large collection of postcards, glass negatives, family photographs and paperwork relating to the printer and photographer John Trueman Burrows (1865 to 1954), was donated to the North East Wales Heritage Forum by a family member who recognised the value of preserving the collection. The collection gives a fascinating record of life from the 1890s up until the middle part of the 20th Century.

J T Burrows moved to Prestatyn in the 1890s after his marriage to Jane Whiteford, whose family lived in Llawndy Farm, Talacre. He opened a shop and library on the corner of the High Street/King’s Avenue in Prestatyn where he sold postcards from photographs he had taken of Prestatyn and the surrounding area. He also started the Prestatyn Weekly newspaper in 1905 which was published until the 1930s.

The full collection has now been digitised and catalogued and will be available in the North East Wales Archives.
