The world’s first commercial hover coach service ran between Rhyl and Wallasey in 1962. The hovercraft carried 24 passengers and reached speeds of 60 knots, crossing the estuary in just half an hour. Sadly the venture came to an end when the hovercraft broke her moorings and was dashed against the sea wall.
