Llangollen Chain Bridge was the first road suspension bridge in Britain, built by an iron master from Plas Kynaston to take coal, lime and bar iron from his wharf on the canal to the London – Holyhead Road in 1817. The bridge was rebuilt as a footbridge in 1876 and became a popular tourist attraction.
