A walk in the Alyn Valley in the Loggerheads- Pantymwyn area

A walk with John Bowen, a Member of Friends of the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley, to see the Sink-holes that have newly appeared in the Alyn Valley in the Loggerheads- Pantymwyn area this year.

The walk will start and finish at the Crown Inn, Cilcain Road, Pantymwyn, Nr Mold, CH7 5EH, with the option of food and drink afterwards. There are some stiles and inclines on this (approximately) 4 mile walk. It will include a stretch of the much loved Leete Path and return via Pantymwyn’s Tower Hill.

This stretch of the River Alyn flows through a limestone area that has also been heavily mined for lead in the past. In summer the river bed is regularly dry as the water flowing at Loggerheads seeps underground through these Sink-holes or Swallow-holes. This year several new developments have occurred and John has taken a particular interest, regularly photographing and monitoring developments.

Dogs accompanied by their well trained owners are welcome.

Please let me know if you or anyone you know would like to join us.
